I often claim that history will not be kind to those who oppose gay marriage, or gay rights in general, and this includes a lot of well-meaning but ultimately misguided gay people who don't appreciate the historic/symbolic importance of demanding to have the option to get married if we so choose - in essence demanding to be granted full citizenship in our own country.
Sullivan points us to an article by Steve Chapman today that fleshes this argument out for me. Chapman states that compared to what the near future will probably look like, social conservatives will be forced to look back on this period as the "good old days". I couldn't agree more. How are you going to look ten years from now on the issue of gay rights?
